Here’s a couple ideas for a Pioneer Day Singing Time! Both activity printables are available here.
Fill the Pioneer’s Handcart

First activity is to fill the Pioneer’s handcart. Hang the pioneers and the handcart up in the board in front of the class. With the items, write a primary song on the back of each one and tape them around the room (or to the side of the handcart on the board).Pick a child to find/pick an item and read what song is on the back. Have the child add the item to the handcart and sing the song as a primary. For Pioneer Day, I like to sing pioneer songs found in the Children’s Songbook. I recommend singing through each song a couple times so the children can start to recognize them.
Pioneer Balloon Activity

This is a fun one! Your primary will be intrigued! And don’t worry-it seems like a lot to set up but it really only takes a couple items and a few minutes. This is one of our primary’s favorite activities! This time your just going to add some pioneers to it.
Gather:
-2 straws
-a balloon
-a string
-tape
Begin by printing the pioneers and taping them to the first straw. Then, blow up the balloon (twist and clip the end), and tape the second straw on the balloon. Secure the string to one wall of the primary room, thread the straws through and secure the other end of the string to the opposite wall. You’ve just made a balloon rocket!
How To Play

Let’s help the pioneers get to the other side! In between songs, let the clip off the balloon and see how far the pioneers can go! You can use 1 big balloon so the pioneers hopefully make it clear to the end in one shot, OR you can use a smaller balloon and have the pioneers make small progress each time. Hopefully they will make it to the other wall by the end of primary! The balloon will need blown up each time OR bring multiple balloons and have them blown up and clipped. Then just tape on a new one when ready for it. Whatever way you do it, this is sure to be a favorite in your primary! Perfect for a fun Pioneer Day singing time!
