Here’s an easy singing time visual! Print this out and store it in your closet for low-prep Sundays. I told my mom I remember someone having a paper puppet like this when I was in primary! I can remember watching the puppets mouth and being mesmerized by how big it could get! It must have been one to remember.

With no luck finding it on the internet, I decided to make my own to share. As closely as I can remember it, here she is: “Singing Sally”.

How it Works

The purpose of Singing Sally is to help the children realize how loudly they’re singing in preparation for singing in sacrament meeting. This helps the children focus on volume AND it keeps their attention. Trust me, it’s motivating. Your kids will want to see just how big her mouth can get. It’s mesmerizing!

Quietly Singing

Here’s how I would use it: Tell the children the song you’ll be singing. Then, explain that when Sally’s mouth gets small, they sing quietly. And when Sally’s mouth gets big, they sing louder. Now you take charge. Slide her mouth bigger and smaller and listen to the children as they adjust their volume. Once the song is over, show them the loudness they should sing while in the chapel-not the very loudest, but loud enough that even people in the back of the chapel can hear. I would put Sally’s mouth about 2/3 the way open to demonstrate.

Singing Expectation in Sacrament Meeting

Visuals really help the children learn the expectations. This will help them understand the volume that is expected in the chapel. I hope you invite Singing Sally to your Primary class! She makes easy friends and can make a great assistant for you. I hope this makes an easy and unforgettable singing time for you and your primary! This is a MUST-add to your collection of Primary Singing Time Visuals!
